Ang Pusô ni Jover Laurio

Pinoy Ako Blog logo

Mahilig siya magbasa: John Grisham, paborito, Rainmaker; Sidney Sheldon, If Tomorrow Comes; historical and contemporary romance novels by Judith McNaught; Danielle Steele.

Oops.

Inaamin naman niya, forgiving siya to a fault.

Bakit siya tutol kay Duterte? “Kasi walang remorse (pagsisisi).

Be strong, God is with you.”

Marami nang nakakakila sa ‘yo, ‘di ba? “Oo.

A star is born siya bigla.

Pati sa work.

I’m scared, or happy, I blog. Blogging is my release.”

While PAB is a remarkable blogger and a decent Filipina, it is the way she stood her ground in the face of thuggery attempts to bring her down that is her moral ascendency. I applaud her. And thank you Will, may an article such as this resonant through the land that ‘a minor blogger’ with the heart in the right place can have a powerful voice.

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

Hi Chem! We’re hitting the high notes in terms of Facebook shares at the early hours. Good sign of a deep bench.

  10. karlgarcia says:

    Salamat Wil!

  11. I have admired PAB for the intelligent, informed and witty takes on fake news and fake “leaders”. became am even more delighted follower, after having found out that she is a woman, and now I’d like her to know how it is so soul-refreshing to come across a home-grown Filipino who is so authentic, brave and true!

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

Yes, Digna. The word is authentic. She doesn’t have pretenses. What you see is what you get. When I requested that the interview be conducted in her home, she said, “Pasensya na po kayo. Maliit lang ang bahay namin.” Well, for the benefit of trolls who insist pro-dem advocates are well-paid, she’s a struggling heroine, the kind we see in our homes like our lola, nanay, ate, tita or pinsan. Socio-economic class C. Sisig rice for sale! I looked around and spied a lonely two-burner stove a foot away from where I sat in the the receiving room, jalousies with no curtains, the whole house as bare and effective as the way she writes. You wonder where she gets the energy. But she was raised that way, in hardscrabble island life, eking out a living from daily catch, growing up as an orphan. And yet she doesn’t have drama. No self-pity, no regrets, no hesitation. She looks at you straight in the eye like she belongs, living a life of mission first for others less fortunate than her, then for the country she loves even if giving is painful.

I was “rinding-rindi” na with Mocha and her league and was looking for someone na pwede nilang makatapat on socmed. I followed Madam Claudia, Amor Powers, and even Señora Santibañez and I think meron pang Obosen. But when I came to know of PAB, Wow! This is it pancit! There was a time pa nga I called the attention of PAB thru PM because of one mispelled item on her blog. I told her ayoko siyang mabanatan ng pro duts bcos of that one mispelled word. She replied to me and very humble naman. That time she earned my respect agad. Unlike those other bloggers I’ve mentioned I sent two of them some materials which they can use for their blogs but the respond was so disappointing kaya hindi na ako umulit.
So that is Jover…deserving of everything she got in her hands now, a minor blogger but enough para umusok ang ilong ng isang major major blogger, Congrats to you and wishing you all the best to come in your way. Wish ko mameet din kita and have some selfie shots with you and of course to be an FBF na rin.
Thanks for the tag Bro Will. Kudos to you and Joe Am. 😊

But this one is very readable! Probably written in a way closer to the way I (and many Filipinos) speak? Tagalog, english, english, tagalog, tagalog… This one will surely trigger emotions, a very good read. Salamat po ulit!

  20. Wonderful piece again, Will. Jover is a very admirable and strong woman. Now, after all the long take on her family’s and her present struggles, the unos coming from PAB’s enemies, etc., you ended the article on a positive note, the all-inclusive virtue that is love, the strong bond between her and Mark. It can only become stronger if they will stand on the same yard of the political fence, the moral one. I know Mark may still change, and if he is reading this thread of comments, I will not touch on what is right and what is wrong as some people will say that morality is a matter of opinion or cultural differences. Rather, the word ‘respect’ which sires fairness and justice. If we want to be treated with respect by the other person, we should do the same thing to that person. Even if a person is a criminal, he deserves a fair trial which is more of a reflection on the one desiring and giving it. If one would wish that the criminal should die because he killed other people, then he has joined the ranks of that criminal. Wala na silang pinagkaiba. This line of thinking by the PNP and some individuals was undeniably fomented by Du30’s ‘kill, kill, kill’ well-documented pronouncements. Du30’s ‘war’ on drugs (which is selective, focusing on the poor and powerless) may be a good thing but the killings have certainly negated it. Burado. Wiped out. Nothing will justify killing a person. That is the most abominable thing one can do to a fellow human being by people who at some point in their lives will also demand, ironically, to be treated fairly and just. There are other methods of dispensing justice, ways that are rooted on – respect.

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

“If we want to be treated with respect by the other person, we should do the same thing to that person.” Thanks, Larry! It’s a simple reminder of a basic thing, but some of us have forgotten that good manners and right conduct beget good manners and right conduct. Hope to see more of you here, my dear friend from Ateneo de Naga hgh school. Primum Regnum Dei.

      • mercedes santos says:

Will : Love is a notion, FAIRNESS is a virtue. I care less about love than I do about being
FAIR. A past australian PM said that life isn’t fair so humans must strive to make it fair. Love, alas , is a very LOOSE word.

      • Will, here’s another reminder, coming from our favorite band:

        “And in the end,
        The love you take
Is equal to the love you make.”

The last words from the lyrics of the ‘The End’ by the Beatles, the last song from their last studio-recorded album ‘Abbey Road’ (1969) as a group.

PAB is my Idol. She is exemplary in her character. I pray that you will multiply in a country that I long time ago surrendered to a more promising land called CANADA. I keep forgetting Ninoy’s word “FILIPINOS ARE WORTH DYING FOR” until PAB, Mr Hermosa, Sen Trillanes, Congr Alejano, CJ Sereno, Ombudswoman Carpio, VP Robredo, Senators Bam Aquino, Drillon, Pangilinan showed us otherwise. Thank You to all of you who continue to fight for TRUTH and FREEDOM/DEMOCRACY. You are forever etched in my heart.

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

Hi Ramon! My siblings have elected to live in Canada, too, so I know where you’re coming from. We who are destined to live in Mother Country will try to preserve the values we hold dear so that in the future, if you should choose to retire here, we can say, “We took care of our country while you were in odyssey. Edgar Lores said he wanted to post this here but is unable to.

    ON IMPEACHMENTS

    1. At first glance, the spectacle of Supreme Court justice Teresita Leonardo De Castro giving testimony against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno in Congress is incongruous. Like a lioness before a kangaroo court.

    2. But we have seen this spectacle before, haven’t we? It is the same scenario as hardened criminals from Bilibid concocting stories to traduce another woman of courage, Senator Leila de Lima.

    3. Except that instead of convicts, we have an august justice from the highest court in the land feeding morsels to the eager, salivating maws of the legislative swine.

    4. August? Yes, but perhaps only in the sense of occupying a high judicial office and not in the sense of inspiring reverence for dispensing Solomonic justice.

    5. For De Castro, in her judicial unwisdom, voted among other decisions:
o To allow convicted plunderer Estrada to run for mayor
o To release charged plunderer Enrile on bail
o To free charged plunderer Arroyo from trial
o To allow the burial of the greatest plunderer Marcos at LNMB
o To keep non-plunderer De Lima incarcerated

5.1. In all of these decisions, Chief Justice Sereno—alongside with judicial lions Antonio Carpio and Marvic Leonen—dissented.

    6. So why is it that Chief Justice Sereno is the one undergoing the process of impeachment? Who, exactly, is betraying the public trust?

6.1. And if we are talking about the culpable violation of the Constitution, why consider Chief Justice Sereno and Ombudswoman Conchita Carpio-Morales?

    Why not President Duterte?

  29. NHerrera says:

BREAKTIME — A SIGN OF THE TIME

Joel Ruiz Butuyan, an opinion writer and a lawyer wrote about participating in an oral argument at the Supreme Court. In a lighter vein he wrote:

The oral arguments at the Supreme Court last week involved our petition for protection against Operation Tokhang in behalf of the residents of San Andres Bukid in Manila. During the questioning, Justice Marvic Leonen asked me in jest: “Have you seen my name in a drug list?” I answered: “Not yet, your honor.” The audience burst into laughter.

    (Highligting, mine.)

“Can you tell me how is it possible that Jover Laurio, a very minor blogger in the Philippines was featured by the BBC in order to defend herself…but not someone like me whose social media following is way way higher than her, whose Facebook engagement is way way higher than her and who you had even interacted on Facebook?” Sasot asked.

“Why were you not concerned about my safety but you were concerned about Jover Laurio?” she further asked.

GOOD QUESTION! Like in the U.S., MINORITY RULES and RILES !

    • Safety: it was DDS bloggers who exposed PABs real name, making BBC interested.

Sasot sounds bitter, a bit like Justice Castro.

KSP seems to be the common denominator of many DDS ‘personalities’ for whatever reason.

      • manangbok says:

“Sasot sounds bitter, a bit like Justice Castro.” — Nice analogy!

(translation: I was just thinking that those who consider themselves DDS seem to have eaten lots of bitter gourd when you listen to the bile spitting out of their mouths. When you confront them about it, they will accuse you of sour-graping because you are a yellow-tard who lost the election.)

Conclusion: there should be a way to confront someone with gentleness, and gulp, yes, love. However, those 2 emotions can sometimes require too much energy that has already been spent tolerating MRT, LRT, the traffic, wondering if you can stretch your bucks until the next salary, etc etc.

Nakakapagod po minsan ang pag-ibig 😦 (insert Maala-ala Mo Kaya theme here)

  31. Sabtang Basco says:

Leonhardt says in above link: “Sunstein’s goal was to lay out a legal and historical framework for thinking about impeachment, independent of any specific president”

Philippines has no historical legal framework. Nut job maybe.

“…mistake for Democrats to put much energy into impeachment right now, because it’s not going to happen: Republicans control Congress and show no interest.”

Replace Democrats with Anti-Duterte. Republicans pro-Duterte

“…think it would be a mistake for Americans — regardless of party — to be in denial about the governing crisis our country is facing. Let’s admit it: Trump is behaving in ways that call for serious talk of impeachment”

Replace Americans with Filipinos. Trump with Duterte.

“If you read Sunstein’s careful history of impeachment — of when the founders believed it was appropriate and necessary — I expect you will come to the same conclusion.”

Americans always mention the “founders” Filipinos do not because they do not have founders except looking back and they only see EDSA.

When Americans mention RULE-OF-LAW it is rule of law based on founding fathers philosophies.

Duterte disdains the rule of law. Pro-Duterte including those who work in the administration consider him fit for presidency. Duterte’s behaviour highlights the unfitness bragging about raping nuns. Sanctioning violation of human rights. and plethora of other behaviour worthy to be impeached.

Unfortunately, Philippines have comedians, basketball players, boxers, mental case and sex
    deviants.

This OP-ED weirdly applies to Philippines, too !

  32. Rogelio Mondala says:

Resibo:
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; Only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.”

    https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/martin_luther_king_jr_101472

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

Hi Rogelio! Salamat sa feedback mo. Yes, only love can drive out hate. Jover Laurio is the poster child for the fight against infamy. She can dish it out, but she will always be imbued with the right values. Bottomline: mabait na bata si Jover. She’s such a creative writer that she doesn’t have to resort to cursing to get her point across. A like for Jover is a like for the Philippines before Duterte. We want our Philippines back, and a young adult is helping lead us to recover what was lost.

Wowow!!! You let us know the REAL PAB or Miss Jover. Congrats for a job well done Sir!!!

Enjoy ako interviewhin si Jover Laurio a.k.a. PAB. May Diyos talaga.

  35. OFW from Afghanistan says:

Thanks, Will for this article. What I like with PAB is she supports her arguments with evidence. The other side when they lose the argument, they resort to name calling and disrespectful responses. Some of us, I notice, start to do the same. And, I find it disturbing. PAB is showing us how to be decent in all these arguments. PAB is showing us how to reclaim the values that are important to us. PAB is us.

    Let us learn from PAB!

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

Hi OFW! Tama.
