Ganyan talaga ang nangyayari kapag may common enemy o dalamhati or pinagdadaanan ang family, neighborhood, church or country.

Yung kabila, palaging below the belt ang tira,

Gising pala.

Pang-siyam, nabuhay ang People Power.

    WOW!

Isa, dalawa, tatlo, apat, lima, anim, pito, walo, siyam, sampu!

    Nabuhay muli!

At tayong lahat!

Hi NH! Now you know who my secret weapon is. Wifey Baby (Renée) clears every article. I could be high up in the clouds but she is my tether to the ground. Idealist and pragmatist, that’s us. Thanks!

  2. NHerrera says:

    Pang labing-isa

(Sorry, medyo kaliwa ng kunti and diskusyon nito.)

  3. I don’t know what Jesus’ empty tomb has to do with DU30 exactly, but let me post a good discussion on said empty tomb with i7sharp (I miss greatly),

    edgar:

    “4. Round 4

4.1. i7sharp: “Do you believe Jesus really existed, died and rose again from the dead?”
4.2. LCpl_X: “He probably existed and died, but resurrection, no.”

4.3. i7sharp: “The kind of salvation you advocate – salvation by austerity – does not lead to eternal life.”

4.4. LCpl_X: “If the resurrection was the center of it all, why aren’t the events consistent? Why aren’t the gospels harmonized as to the events in the cave and after the cave?
4.5. i7sharp: “Please be more specific on the gospels not harmonizing. Start with two verses.”

4.6. LCpl_X: Provides table comparing the gospels as to the sequence of “resurrection” events.
    4.7. i7sharp: “I asked for two verses.”

4.8. LCpl_X: Quotes John 20 (Jesus is in the cave), Matthew 28, Luke 24 and Mark 16 (Jesus is not in the cave). So was Jesus in the cave or not?
4.9. i7sharp: “If everything makes sense with a ‘shortened’ Mark, would you believe in the Resurrection?

4.10. i7sharp: “I have requested for two verses.”
    4.11. LCpl_X. Quotes Matthew 28.6 and John 20:14.

4.12: i7sharp: “Give me a few hours to study this.”

Is the allusion to the Empty Cave here similar to The Emperor’s New Clothes, Wil?

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

No allusion to Emperor’s, Lance. Empty tomb because patriotism seems to have died and has risen. President Duterte wanted love of country to die so he can have his way with us, but lo and behold, instead of staying in entombment, it has risen. Did I answer your question?

      • Ah, I see, so not the empty tomb per se, but the risen part vis-a-vis Filipino love of country. Sorry had to piece together article photo with DU30’s name.

        it is said, that…

I think the riposte is appropriate to both the medium and the message.

o Medium: Oh, save me from my lust!
o Message: Oh, love, save me from this world of hate and sin!

P.S. My initial interpretation was that the riposte was to the message.

            • I’m still trying to figure out if that’s panties i’m looking at there, edgar, and we’re at the periphery of the heart of it all. If so, forget the tattoo, that right there “conquers” all.

        • trebor9 says:

I like the tattoo and the messages it delivers LCpl_X.
“Amor vincit omnia’. Yes indeed “Love Conquers All” – it’s appropriate on Wil’s article and inspires us with the belief that nothing can go wrong when love is involved. Be patient the storm will pass.

          • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

Sorry, Lance, and thanks, Trevor! Should have looked up the Latin. I saw the medium, not the message. Yes, love conquers all, trite as it may sound. Love is man’s first meaningful urge and his last resort and refuge.

        • NHerrera says:

A sample poster for the concept of medium and message and their difference; interesting comments guys — but a poster with a PG rating. 🙂

  5. edgar lores says:

    *******
    1. Fascinating — from the view of the problem of good and evil.

    2. The notion that good can flow from evil – and vice-versa – coupled with the notion of an interventionist god has always fascinated me.

    3. My stance – and I believe that of TSH — has been that Duterte is a manifestation of evil and that he and his works go against Christian morality.

    4. Here we have the enigma of a chivalrous Christian mentality trying to reconcile and embrace the evil of Duterte for the beneficial consequences (kinahinatnan) of the President’s thoughts and deeds.

    5. From the viewpoint of Consequentialism, Duterte’s evil is almost justified — except that the enumerated Ten Good Results are unintended consequences.

    6. Yes, Duterte, in the process of his evil schemes, is raising the consciousness of the nation and uniting the nation in love. It is almost as though if Duterte did not exist, he would have to be invented. For the sake of the nation.

    7. The rationale behind the attempt at reconciliation is, of course, the faith that this is all part of God’s plan. And the attempt is in keeping with the Christian doctrine of love, of loving one’s enemies.

    7.1. As the Bible says:
    ”44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

“45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”

    8. And so the twin undercurrents of Good and Evil flow – inextricably linked — in the River of Life.
    *****

    • Wilfredo G. Villanueva says:

Beautifully expressed, topped off with scriptural relish. Thanks, Prof.

      • edgar,

Don’t mean to quibble here, but where would you place Jesus’ Caesar quote in this River of Life, and this Good and Evil flow.

I’ve always read Jesus as a ‘focus on the after life’ type-a guy, edgar, hence he’d just render unto DU30 what is his, EJKs to singing for Trump, and forgive and forget.

        • The beauty of Christianity IMHO is in the Prodigal Son parable, in a sense Christianity is amoral, no?

Where the Old Testament is more direct.

          • edgar lores says:

            *******
Just to be accurate, the cartoon misrepresents the Parable of the Prodigal Son.

The not-so-prodigal son is not mistreated. Just un-treated.

In fact, the father says (Luke 15:31-32), “31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

“32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.” [Bolding mine.]

          1. The verses I quoted — Matthew 5:44 – 45 — express the unity of Good and Evil from the perspective of Eternity.

          2. Your quoted verse — Mark 12:17 — expresses the view of Jesus that a man:

2.1. Should pay (or act) what is due to the government
2.2. Should choose between the Kingdom of Heaven or the kingdom of earth

          3. Re 2.2: from Jesus’ viewpoint, one might initially conclude that he is apolitical. Not so. He totally rejects any and all earthly power. This is Satan’s third and last temptation. Jesus also says, “My kingdom is not of this world.”

          4. Re 2.1: but we are not Jesus. So what are we to do with the problem of Good and Evil from the perspective of Now? This is where the complication lies.

4.1. The Bible is full of contradictions. Or, rather, for a controversy, one can cite a passage to support opposing views.

4.2. Accordingly, one can cite many verses for one’s duty to support the government — 1 Peter 2:13, Romans 13:1-2, and Ephesians 6:5-8.

4.3. Conversely, to rage against government, one can cite Acts 5:29 and Ephesians 6:6!

4.4. So take your pick. Clearly, Master Will has made his choice — which, in my humble judgment, is correct.

          5. This is the Mobius strip magic of Christianity: whatever choice one makes is according to God’s plan.
          *****

          • NICE!

A Mobius strip or a Klein bottle,

either way, the Christian is stuck. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t; but as Yoda once said, “Do or Do Not, there is no Try”. there is only action. God’s on both sides (which is sorta like cheating, no? 😉 ); personally when I get old and non-ambulatory, i’d like to have one of them Klein bottles to pee in… for some irony in old age.

    • “6. Yes, Duterte, in the process of his evil schemes, is raising the consciousness of the nation and uniting the nation in love. It is almost as though if Duterte did not exist, he would have to be invented. For the sake of the nation.”

Still on the economy, especially the future’s:

Former NEDA Chief Solita Monsod gives a positive word to the Administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program to improve the country’s [physical and human] infrastructure and Monsod is supportive of DOF Sec Dominguez’ plan for the BBB program knowing that the massive foreign loans needed for the program need payment. Dominguez proposed the increase in the fuel excises [to] bring in P177 billion, and removing the VAT exemptions [to] bring in P166 billion.

But it seems at least three of our “favorite” Senators who Monsod labels as ‘Papa Bear,’ ‘Mama Bear,’ ‘Ice Queen’ — namely, Gordon, Villar and Legarda, respectively — are putting a monkey wrench to Dominguez’ plan and substituting their own — not-so-sound alternatives in the view of Monsod.

Some mistake that as frivolity. A deep antidemocratic spirit, hostile to the rule of law, characterizes Dutertismo. And this spirit will continue to seek ways to express itself—if not through the self-coup that is a revolutionary government, then through the extension and even expansion of martial law, the weaponization of Congress’ power to impeach, the continuing abuse of the justice department’s prosecutorial powers.

… “normalization” of unconstitutional conduct is also a function of time and repetition.

… That is why pushback against a revolutionary government or any other anti-democratic attempt must continue; the threat remains.

What are the odds on this: if the Mueller investigation into Russia collusion turns up definite proof of wrongdoing up to Trump (e.g. a Flynn or Kushner confession or intercepts of conversations between the Russians and Trump’s team), will he declare war on North Korea just to divert attention?

    • You have to ask yourself what Trump was colluding for? Did Russia say we’ll flood social media with all these petty stuff, if you … *give Russians’ what exactly, andrew?

Then ask what Flynn lied about was truly a crime, not the lie per se, but what he lied about.

Now Manafort (plus Gates) definitely was working with the Russians.

Now Trump aside from Miss Universe pageant and doing business with Russians (real estate), he’s also involved with that no doubt, but the question is can the FBI and Mueller prove what he did was treasonous.

For sure , I think the FBI can ding Trump for lying to them, but CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE U.S.? Really doubtful.

Another question, the FBI just nabbed Manafort (and Gates), supposedly this guy was well known as some shady character in DC, how come the FBI just got him now? My answer, because like a bunch of politicians in DC, Manafort was just playing along, hence the protection for so long.

So no they’ll not ding Trump for something they themselves are dingable for, but they will ding him for lying to the FBI , I’m reading his tweets and I’m like what a beautiful obvious lie and i’m just reading tweets.

Is that enough to jail him or impeach him? There’s the rub.

        1. Would not the cognizance and acknowledgment of lies… indicate cognizance and acknowledgment of wrongdoing?

        2. Whether or not it (wrongdoing) is so, would not the lies constitute “obstruction of justice?”
        *****

        • edgar,

Mueller will have to interview Trump to ding him for lying, then eventually for Obstruction of Justice, very different from Conspiracy Against the US , methinks. But Conspiracy Against the US is prize here.

Why the Deutsche Bank info was leaked I think means more that they found nothing re money laundering, and/or shady dealings between Trump & Russians. But Trumps been on record boasting how he’s played Wall St. banks against each other,

so maybe just loans, real estate schemes, though he’s sold and invested with Russians (private citizens, but who knows… ) before, that’s actually how he’s kept afloat.

but Conspiracy Against the US, compared to petty real estate type crimes, I don’t think you can impeach based on petty real estate crimes , especially since that has nothing to do with the collusion angle , only that

Trumps done business with Russians in the past.

          BUT we’ll see…

I HATE DONALD TRUMP here are what I like about his agenda:
        1. Control immigration
        2. Clean the country of illegal immigrants
        3. half-half on tax reform
        4. Extreme vetting of immigrants
        5. Accept only the brightest and the wealthiest
        6. To heck with environment: If the U.S. cannot afford environment so does Philippines. But Filipinos love environment. They’d rather go hungry than trash environment that they cannot afford.

What I do not agree with Donald Trump
        1. Corporate tax
        2. Accommodation of special interests deep in 500-page tax reform
        3. Sunset provision of individual tax yet making corporate tax permanent
        4. Sunset because of 10-year 1.5 trillion deficit window
        5. meaning, individual tax will go back to where it was in 2018 so individual tax payers pay off the deficit after ten years caused by dropping taxes of corporations

WHO PAYS FOR THE DEFICIT EVENTUALLY and FINALLY? The high-school drop-out rust belt rural white Americans. They do not know what hit them because they cannot afford to pay for news subscription.

WORTHY OF NOTE: A Filipino tax advisor who has his office in the veranda of his Nipa Hut facing sunrise over the horizon told me not to worry about 30% vehicle excise tax. He gave me a good example: 12% VAT

He asked me to compare MacBook prices in the U.S. and in the Philippines. The U.S. has no VAT Philippines do. When MacBook Philippine price (VAT included) is converted to U.S. it cost the same as in the U.S.

He gave me another example: Samsung S8. Cost in the Philippines including 12% VAT 40,500.00 pesos. Cost of Samsung S8 in the U.S.: $799.00

So, the 30% vehicle excise tax will already be embedded in their price. Dealership can afford it.

Tax advisor consultation fee? FREE! That is the beauty in the Philippines. There are services that are still free that would have cost an arm and a leg in the U.S.

      • NHerrera says:

On the news that Flynn will cooperate with Mueller on its investigation, one response from the White House — “Mr Flynn is a lying liar who lies.”

A note on logic. The statement, “Mr John is a truthful honest person who tells the truth” means John tells the truth at all times.

However, in the case of the WH response, taken on its face, Flynn may just tell the truth to the Mueller investigators.

    • Low I think. But the world seems to be descending into the last book of the Bible, so who’s to know?

The Philippines should take note: Mueller has subpoenaed Trump’s Deutsche Bank records — and the bank is cooperating.

The news report said, “In July, Trump said in an interview with the New York Times that if Mueller examined his family’s finances beyond any relationship with Russia he’d consider it ‘a violation.'”

The laws on bank secrecy have to amended, but parameters have to be established. Such as:

o Transactions with a foreign power
o Transactions with terrorist organizations (NPA, Abu Sayyaf)
      o Drug money
o Millions that disappear on “happy, happy”

      1. North Korea should be attacked before they can fine tune their nuclear delivery system
      2. The U.S. should pre-empt North Korea before they can put nuclear bomb in a suitcase
      3. North Korea does not believe in diplomacy why bother?
      4. Embargo will kill North Koreans slowly not the generals and Kim Jung Un
      5. Pre-emptive strike ends North Koreans slow-death and torment
      6. Waiting for North Korea to strike will cost someone’s presidency
      ——
      1. If North Korea fires off “test” ICBM and the U.S. shoots it down to show off U.S. capabilities …
      2. without U.S. knowing it is already nuclear tipped ….
      3. It blows up a mushroom in the sky …
      4. North Korea will do a Trump: “It was a test ICBM, they shot it down with nuclear bomb”
      ——
      1. There is nothing wrong Trump transition team talks to Russia
      2. What was wrong was they lied about it
      3. Why they lied when there is nothing wrong?
      4. Therefore there is something wrong
      5. Trump son-in-low Kushner nonchalant instructed Flynn to contact Kilshiyak
      6. Contacting Kilshiyak like they have been tête-à-tête for some time
      7. Collusion? No
      8. Complicit? No
      9. Lying? YES
      ——-
Trump been known a liar from campaign to presidency A FACT!

Trump is religious like all Republicans. Trump is the answer to North Korea. Narcissistic egotistic Trump is the instrument of God to put demise to North Korea because Democrats did not want to do it.

You say God won’t allow it? Think! Think! Think again! Remember Sodom and Gomorah. Both of these islands were wiped out of the face of the earth including infants, pregnant women, old men and women, disabled, blind …..

God will allow it. After North Korea the world will see peace again after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
