Pinakamasamang paliparan sa mundo (“Worst airport in the world”) ay patunay na hindi epektibo and Daang Matuwid.

. . yero, tabla at pagkain.

(“Is Andrew lim Filipino? Leave the Filipino people alone.)”

  1. I see at least 3 missing prepositions and a typo, so to the lady who requested this to be translated, kindly edit before handing out copies. Thank you.

Forget about bbm’s bad bloodline. The philippines will take a back seat again if you elect any of these proven corruptors.

Sana mag-isip kang mabuti at maging mapanuri.

    • Joe America says:

Hacienda Luisita is irrelevant to presidential performance. Janet Napoles is in jail. Yolanda funds have been used responsibly for all that I know. Civic buildings were rebuilt quickly. Visayas mayors and governors outside of Tacloban have expressed appreciation for the work done. I’ve personally seen it. One does not build houses for people who never had real ones in the first place without a lot of work to get funding, sites and buildings. If you have a positive statement to make in favor of a candidate, kindly make it. But this crabby criticism that bends the truth in favor of simplistic statements is EXACTLY the dumbing down of which I write.

      • “Wag kami iba na lang.” this last statement is the key Joe…it is about a feeling folks have. The rest is just stuff they say. Rationalizations for an emotional reaction.

Self-righteous, sanctimonious, hypocritical. Is what many think of Daang Matuwid.

http://filipinogerman.blogsport.eu/reconstitute-the-philippines/ – Can’t blame them, since they are assuming this is being followed:

Article 5. Ordinary people and our political enemies are suspect, we are beyond doubt.

The hard sell is convincing people who believe that the Filipino elite is CONSTITUTED that way “in saeculo saeculorum” – who probably think Article 4 will apply once Roxas wins.

        • Joe America says:

There are a couple of cultural attributes that come together to generate this negative view, I think. Lack of trust, and lack of the ABILITY to trust (which requires sacrificing one’s own need to be right all the time). Cumulative effect of the brainwashers (those with an agenda), as fed through the media. Esteem issues that come into the picture when trying to defend something (getting labeled yellowtard); easier to join the baying crowd.

The individual Filipino is to some extent constituted by his cultural surroundings. That leaves room for hope that education can change individuals one at a time so they become more rational and less susceptible to the negative passions.

          • Not just education. They will have to SEE that fairness and equal opportunities EXIST. They haven’t seen an elephant fly in their lives and neither have they seen those.

            • They will see us as suck-ups (sipsip) looking for pull (kapit) with the ruling group.

The fear in the back of their heads is that “we” will benefit in some way and “they” will be left in the dirt. That if “we” do something wrong, it will be ignored, but if “they” do something wrong they will be punished. MRPs writes “only the dark-skinned Filipinos get accused of corruption, the mestizo class never”. Now it has often been that way, and people haven’t seen anything else. It’s like me telling you “I am a flying hippopotamus”.

            • I will give an example from my own experience. With my “two mothers” – my German mother and my Ilokana nanny. Now my yaya is so hardheaded and distrustful sometimes that my brother and me, as little children, used to call her a carabao when alone.

BUT my mother consistently showed her what fairness is. Send her to evening classes. But didn’t let her off the hook when stuff went wrong. So her loyalty to my mother is total.

Another example: American rule in the Philippines. A lot of the older folks who fondly remember American rule do so because there was such a thing as fairness and equal opportunity. U.P. -founded 1908 – used to be a place where you could rise up from poverty. It has become dynastic and exclusive in many ways. The automatic U.P. scholarship for valedictorians and salutatorians of every public school was abolished in the 60s or 70s. There are professorial dynasties there. More rich kids than before.

A foreign example: Romanian project. I can be very tough when it comes to smoking out issues – that is what I am paid for. Noticed the locals in the project were sweeping dirt under the rug. Caught them. They started defending and justifying themselves. I said hey guys this is not about blame and punishment. This is about finding what went wrong and fixing it as quickly as possible. They looked at me like I was someone from outer space.

What people haven’t experienced they can’t believe in easily. Marco Polo was called a liar.

            • Joe America says:

Yes, good point, but there are signs that more people are starting to believe there is an upside, and 6 more years of robust growth, with some diversification of economic strength, and those opportunities ought to become apparent. Not cured. But felt.

              • Exactly… the orchard is bearing fruit. The trouble is those who haven’t tasted much of that fruit yet. Because there are forces that wish to eat the fruit without tending the orchard.

                – One would like to turn the orchard into a piggery after eating all the fruits.

                – A crazy woman would like to turn it into a slave camp with the son of a dictator.

                – Another would turn it into a film studio, play Alice in Wonderland and neglect the trees

There is only one competent agribusinessman and that is Mar. With a VP who knows how to motivate employees because she has strong people skills. To grow the orchard.

              • Back on topic I have an idea for a meme, based on Star Wars 7:

A picture of old Han Solo telling the young people who have forgotten: “yes, it’s all real, the Jedi, the Dark Side”.

But with the following text: “yes, it’s all real, the Marcos dictatorship, the February revolution, the struggle to regain our freedom”.

          • eric says:

      • Terry Henzerling says:

Who gives a shit about your pathetic ramblings to begin with? For someone who hasn’t got balls enough to give everyone here the turth of who he REALLY is. Either in pictures or a bio.

Sure does enjoy shooting his mouth off about the current administration. And its opposition.

        • Joe America says:

Terry, I originally sent your comment to “spam” because I get a lot of these. People who object to the message drop by to fire off an insult, rather like an adolescent teen pushing out his chest as if it were his dick, to present his manhood whilst diminishing another’s. But I brought it back because it shows exactly the point of the blog, the empty, uncivil, intimidating method of those seeking to dumb down the Philippines. Who cares who JoeAm is, anyway, except people grasping desperately for advantage? The discussions here are vibrant and filled with insight. That, of course, is what is intimidating to little pissants like you who can’t articulate a positive message in favor of your candidate (who is likely a thug as well), and who therefore wave their dicks around . . . as if we cared.

          • jeremy says:

halata naman na one-sided ang article mo. PNOY ikaw ba yan? 🙂

            • Joe America says:

The idea, jeremy, is that readers will provide the other side, if there is hole in my thinking. It requires that they present an intelligent and defensible position on their side, which few one seem inclined to do. Rather, they arrive, shoot off an insult, and leave. Or some drop off an elaborate statement and never return to address the rebuttal.

So who do you favor, and why? Put your view out there.

              • starkdisciple says:

Joe, these kids will not explain. Because they can’t. You’re right–they just shoot and leave. Tried to engage them in different venues. Nothing. They did succeed in making my BP shoot up. But then again, we shouldn’t stop exposing the Marcoses. Otherwise these well-funded zombies will overrun us in a decade.

                • Joe America says:

Yes, good point, stark. Push back. And they do behave as paid hacks would, no listen, no logic, just pound out slogans and insults. (I’ve got to put that principle into a tweet. Thanks for the idea.)

              • Nori Santos says:

That’s your problem, JoeAm..that there are no holes in your thinking, but your identity is a big hole. 🙂 If not for your nom de plume, I’d give you 100% for credibility. Those who can’t take what you dish out, it seems to me, just don’t have enough brains to deal with the facts they can only resort to badmouthing, begging the question, etc.Being on the right side of history has its price, too old to be understood and too correct to be appreciated.

                • Joe America says:

Ah, yes, but what’s a name, anyway? It attaches to a look and a personality and whatever knowledge, brainpower and compassion we are able to summon up. The only thing you can’t see is the look, which for some would resemble a target down at the shooting range. You get all the rest in the blogs. So if you read regularly, I’d guess you know more about me than you do some of your friends. 🙂 In other words, I’m rather fond of that particular hole. haha

        • Joe America says:

If I understand this correctly, you are not for anyone, but are against the current government. I had a discussion yesterday on Facebook with a guy who does not like Roxas (I do). I asked him who he would vote for then, and he said no one. That’s a very safe position to take, because he can criticize anyone for anything, and keep his feet clean, while the rest of us are out figuring out who can best lead the Philippines to prosperity. If you have nothing to argue FOR, how can I respect your complaint? You present no alternative.

          • He is a voter of the NVP – the non-voters party. Not a very smart thing to do really.

By now having seen the economic results – and that the poor are also being helped in enabling themselve through TESDA and Dual Training (Germany companies are big in that I just saw a posting about that happening right now in Tondo, also some TESDA trainees have recently been to Germany and have visited German factories to see how the stuff works there, even were at Porsche among others) I am fully for Mar Roxas. Or if I look at the stuff Hanns-Seidel Foundation from Munich is doing – including promoting good governance and transparency in LGUS (so it is not just the big fish that are being gone after and even there the Ombudsman is doing it without fear or favor), helping cooperatives and also micro-financing for small businesses, it is not just the big guys whose live are getting better that is one of the BIG LIES that are being spread. PNP human rights training means that the small folks have police that help them not hurt them – also an HSS project. New Penal Code joint HSS-DOJ project once it gets passed hopefully means criminals might go to jail faster, now that should be followed up because I think the fear of crime is what makes Duterte popular, the draft is finished since 2014 who can tell me why or what is happening to it? Gian maybe or who else knows where to look for this stuff? Just asking for help not ordering anyone around, I am just stating something that is important. And I don’t want anybody here to tell me look for it yourself, I am contributing enough so if anyone doesn’t want to do it, don’t. http://www.hss.de/fileadmin/suedostasien/philippines/downloads/2014/HSF-Philippinen-EN__Oct_2014_.pdf

            • Those voters of the NVP basically surrender their rights to those that DO vote.

There are four choices, life is getting better, except I really do think the main problem of those who are not living behind subdivision walls might be the crime rate on the streets.

Living in fear can make a big difference – there is scientific proof by now that people in a state of fear revert to a simpler mode of thinking. Oplan Lambat-Sibat is a Mar Roxas achievement for sure. But again – I do not ask anyone to do it I am just giving impulses – are there any reliable statistics on the crime rate? On the perceptions of normal citizens? Because looking away or whitewashing doesn’t solve problems – any information welcome.

              • I am just asking some questions – there is progress for sure. But WHY do some citizens not see it. What could be the reasons:

                1) crime rate on the streets? Traffic and Internet speed we have already talked about. But with 4 million slum dwellers in Metro Manila out of 11 miliion people, crime will be an issue.

                2) a lot of OFWs are mad about how customs treats them at the airport, Balikbayan boxes.

                3) making ends meet? The progressive taxation table that is outdated gian has written about. Progress is there but of course people who are fighting with not having enough money or paying off loansharks will say what the hell. Are there statistics on this? Are there agencies or institutions that help debtors. There is a state-funded Debtor’s Advisory Office in every German city. Teaches people how to manage their money and pay debts. Talks to the banks and even helps with legal issues. Who helps people in dire straits?

Emotional distress and fear may lead these people to think wrong – any help in sight?

                • Joe America says:

They don’t see it because the sensationalism in the tabloid media is rather like Indonesian smog, blanketing everything in a grey paste of anger and pique and negativity. There is no upside for media to be positive or informative. Their readership doesn’t read it. The readership wants the dirt, the emotional edge of easy engagement. Eggs and chickens, rolling and running, and avoiding research and study.

              • It is short-sightedness on the part of many that make them believe the negative stuff. I am far from the old migrant crowd I used to know well – but on the day-to-day most of them had a turtle perspective to things. I think a lot of people in the Philippines still have that – not the new, confident lot I saw in the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industries postings on TESDA and dual training I have on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/filipinogermanlearning. The still negative need to be taught some life skills at the barangay level – how to step back and analyze before just griping all the time. Because mostly it is a lack of day-to-day problem solving skills that makes them be so negative. These I think are behind the pool of resentment that populists are tapping.

Ay ayoko na at once – the kind of stuff that went around after Mamasapano. Shouting and clamoring instead of stating their issues calmly and firmly. The fish market mentality – I have seen it often enough. Not the fish port mentality. Confident and forward-looking.

            • Joe America says:

Thanks, Irineo. An NVP voter is rather like a guy on a pedestal that he built himself so he doesn’t have to get his feet dirty or esteem challenged like the rest of us. Safe, safe, safe. I don’t give them any credence at all, because life is full of tough choices, and we ought to be able to make them. Someone who can’t is in no position to instruct the rest of us.

By the way, change of pace, check the “Must Read” section for an article about the Telcos. Globe and Smart are stepping up service because there is a third powerful entrant coming into the field. Cheers, and here’s a San Mig to you!

My own Globe speed and access has been stepped up dramatically the past three days, operating the way it should . . . almost. What is interesting is that total bandwidth is moderated because not so much energy is wasted half-loading pages or pinging back and forth trying to get them to load.

Those issues are irrelevant. Hacienda Luisita is an Aquino-related issue and PNOY is not running in 2016. Napoles is an Enrile/Revilla/Estrada issue, none of them will ruin in 2016.

If you want to write about them then you’ve got all the right to do so, but if you want to author to write down every single evil that exists on earth, then you, my countryman, are nuts.

    Joe Am,
This is a very truthful article that I have ever read regarding the Binays and the Marcoses. The illiterate voters are the victims of these two plunderers. I hope your articles carry a very wide circulation so that more people can read the truth and understand the perils that they are in if they vote for these plunderers. Keep on writing the truth Joe and support all your articles of truth thugh I am far away from you . I am here in Canada but I always look for your intelligent and worthy literature regarding my beloved country. If you were running for for any political office in government, I will give you mt whole hearted support and blessing. Keep it up Joe Am.

    • Joe America says:

I appreciate the reading and kind review, Fred. I’m not running for anything, but am contributing the best way I know how, which is to write directly to the point, trying for a style that connects. I trust that you enliven the Canadian chill with the special kind of people-to-people warmth found everywhere in the Philippines.

    • Joe America says:

Ah, Topet, you come to a discussion blog and drop off insults and simple statements totally lacking any documentation. You are one of those advocates for stupidity trying to make other people stupid by roping them in with blustering and intimidating language. Go back to your rock. Not much makes me angry these days, but simpletons pretending moral and knowledge superiority do.

      • Joe America says:

We’re here working to do right by the nation, and you are busy throwing dung on us and the Philippines. I get paid nothing. I write my ass off trying to get simple points across to dunces like you, that you are leading the nation into the pits of Hell.

          • Nagbubulag-bulagan is the right word – something like ignorant. Denying reality.

          • stpaul says:

Now I recall what Will wrote about us having a “collective personality disorder.” Your side note Sir Joe is so spot on. And one can’t help but be melancholy on the current state of events. Is this really our curse as a people? Can’t we really trust that one of our own could turn the course of our nation to a rising tiger status?

            • Joe America says:

I think it’s high time Filipinos started walking with their heads up, proud of all the GOOD WORK being done by a lot of people, in the face of scoundrels throwing rocks.

            • stpaul, that’s because they still can’t feel the benefits of the new tiger status which for now, benefits only the rich businessmen. What they feel are the handouts given by the corrupt sourced from their plundered loot.

They are so impatient and could not comprehend that it will take time for the government to raise the standard of living of the majority of the Filipinos. They voice out their frustration of being in the poverty rut they are in, and Marcos, Binay and Poe are echoing their moans of frustration. They don’t realize that these dirty politicians are part of the reason why they are still there, and they are also to blame for putting them in positions that give power to lord over them for the longest time.

              • We need to tell them that when businessmen reap the benefits of the new tiger status, they are able to provide more employment and increase tax revenues of the government so the CCT program can be expanded to reach poorest of the poor, to create more infrastructures that will benefit the working class and the rich alike, and to provide more social programs as well as upgrade our defense capability.

              • stpaul says:

Thank you Sir Joe and Ms. Mary for the reply.

What is so frustrating is when you hear your friends and relatives supporting Binay and Marcos despite all the evidences of their plunder. Just because they didn’t vote for Pnoy, they would rather believe all the negative criticisms againts him and his team and would turn a blind eye on the achievements of this administration. As one fb post stated, “Anong mamamayan meron ang Pilipinas?”

Sorry for the negativity. But, we will overcome. With people like you and all the commenters (except the trolls) here in the Society of Honor, there’s no obstacle nor mountain which we can’t overcome and climb.

Guys like Binay and Bongbong that spill falsehoods and half-truths – mindless supporters think those are truth. We know them for what they are, and behind those words lie evil and sober thoughts with agendas for personal benefits. You cannot discuss with these people. Simply refer them to this open site and check out with an open mind.

    The Freebie Card,

    The Blame Card.

    The God Card,

    The Sympathy Card,
    to win sympathy from others

  9. My warmest congratulations to JP for making this great effort to translate Joe’s moving article. You and cha are doing a great job in reaching out to our less fortunate countrymen. I trult hope your efforts will not be in vain.

My thanks too, Irineo for helping Joe deal with the loyalist trolls who are helping the Marcoses and the Binays in returning us to the abyss when we are already away from it and needing only continuity so we wont be the laughing stock of foreigners who think that it is the voters’ fault (who repeatedly elect dirty leaders) that we are still not worth the respect and recognition from the rest of the world.

    • Salamat Mary… I must thank my yaya and my labandera (well my labandera is loyal to Apo Lakay but she is 91 years old now and a GI = Genuine Ilokana so I respect that, plus utang na loob ko sa kanya for telling the Constabulary na “kami lang ditong mga katulong” while my aunt was hiding in the maids room with activist pamphlets, and she called U.P. Balara to extinguish the fire in my parent’s room after getting my baby brother out, this is loyalty) for teaching me the masa culture by example, and Manong Eddie my yaya’s husband from Nueva Ecija, ex-PNP who taught me paninindigan, who told me a lot of things… one thing was noong harapin siya ng siga sa Katipunan, ang sagot niya: “siga ka ba? O di mabuti, dalawa na tayo”. He taught me the strength and values that we still have in our culture…

    • We all do our share to get PH out of the rut and to derail that slow train to hell. I know my translations are not perfect but with a little more practice, they will get better.

Thank you, Mary, for all that you do for our country and our people.

Baka ako din macensored dito Kaya tahimik Lang muna

        • The best way is to use anger as energy… I will research to evaluate the candidates for President and rank them according to different criteria. But I think the result will still favor Mar Roxas. Because the best medicine against the disinformation in many places is to shine the light of truth on matters. Mar may not have a grade of 1 in my evaluation, I think it is 2, but the others are much lower. Grace Poe 3 maybe even lower not passing, BongBong Marcos 4 Binay 5… I will quote Giancarlo’s study on Senate Bills, and his memes on Daang Matuwid achievements. What I would be very happy about is if anyone can give me a picture of what happened during Yolanda – good parts, bad parts for a balanced view. How do achievements balance against mistakes for a sum total.

There are also sources – UN – that praise how the management of Lando has improved. Lessons learned are also an important part of my criteria, Bongbong fails in this aspect.

Every contribution is highly appreciated. I will of course credit every contributor. Mary I know you have posted a lot on the corruption side of the Marcoses and Bongbongs involvement, please send me what you have. Take your time, I am taking mine also.

The Marcos abuses I have enough material already. Stuff on Grace Poe I would very much appreciate, who can put the information together for me? For Miriam Santiago I would also welcome some stuff. Binay as well. Any volunteers, one per candidate?

I will take care of Mar Roxas information. Will take my time, maybe 2-3 weeks to write. What I must admit is that the level of misinformation out there has truly shocked me.

          • Karl garcia says:

Besides I will not use the Society as the only source. But anyway thanks. I appreciate whoever is willing to put stuff together like gian has done and will credit their contribution.

I think Reyes is a nut case, in the main, an extremist. The CCT program has been expanded dramatically by the Aquino Administration, and is cited by International observers for its success. The Aquino Administration (LP) would be foolish, during a campaign season, to neglect to take credit where credit is due, for political purposes. Every deed of a politician is political. That’s the competitive energy that drives for improvement. Reyes should do some positive, reasonable things that his advocacy could take credit for.

                • I’ll try to isolate the laws made by the presidential candidates.

Because Mar, Poe and MDS are the senators we can conveniently ignore Digong and Binay although if we posit that Senator Binay can be a proxy for VP Binay I’ll include her in the tabulation.

              • Can’t open it. Anyway doesn’t matter – I have noticed how misleading the stuff is that is circulating. Will definitely take a break to gain some distance and a better perspective.

Thanks anyway gian for the material you are putting together. My evaluation is intended as a way of clearing the fog of conflicting information. But the China article will be first. Karl already gave me a lot of material on that which I must sift through and incorporate.

                • Joe America says:

Yes, please, that China article. So I can peer it. I miss that gaggle of China advocates, who don’t seem to care much about anything but pushing their mission forward.

Of course many things are still messed up, but I am asking myself why are they like that? There is something very wrong, I can’t really put my finger on it – just my impression…

This is something I think you will have to figure out. Those on the ground, at home, will know the day-to-day much better. Alright, so long for now, just 2-3 weeks break…

              • Will, thanks for answering to my above posting I also place in FB Leni Robredo group. The gist being: the middle class is resurrected and CONSTITUTES the center.

This was the whole point of my article about reconstituting the Philippines. Not literally changing the Constitution, but giving new life to the body politic. Citizens like you Will make me regain hope – that real democracy meaning civic sense is resurrecting there. Because the extreme-left and extreme-right stuff you mentioned is exactly what I have been through – akala ko wala na talagang pag-asa.

https://joeam.com/2015/10/23/reconstitute-the-philippines/ – In this context, I hope the Society gives my article a second, more favorable read. The silence was disappointing from most mainstays of the Society. But I guess it could have been misread a little.

For me, Irineo, I can’t keep up with your pace of dialogue. You think 10 times as fast and write 7 times as fast as I can, so I’m still exhaustedly trying to figure out one post and you’ve tacked on five more. I can’t catch up to you. Plus I have to write my own stuff and attend to other guests. Without question, you write some of the most brilliant and thought provoking pieces here. I wish I could just do a collection of them to tack on exclamation points. Yes! THIS!

But then I have to go shoot hoops with the kid . . .

              • Thanks Joe… I understand that. With Filipinos back home I am not so sure whether it is lack of time or vestiges of Spanish Catholic upbringing. I was impressed by Will’s answer to my posting in the Leni Facebook group – it was almost Lutheran in its directness. 🙂

Because the satire about Pedro and Joe in the article is exactly about that – Pedro just tells the Thomasite what he wants to hear, like he was used to do with Spanish friars. Who didn’t want to hear anything else – mass was in Latin, Bible too, I do the thinking for you.

Lutheranism – I know you wrote an article about this, and I am Catholic but was partly raised Lutheran by my mother – was a step forward. Read the bible. Ask questions. Discuss with the priest, don’t just believe received wisdom. Now why are Protestant countries all more democratic and progressive than Catholic ones? To quote some Filipino school teacher, because they use their coconut more. And are not scared of speaking truth to power (another LCPL_X thing I remember) or authority – something Luther started.

              • Joe, many of my own blog articles are basically summaries of several posts here.

In fact the latest article started by me cutting and pasting a whole series of posts, representing a train of thought, and welding them together, reforming them into a whole.

And that inspite of the fact that I did not have any TESDA training – BTW I have a post in my FB page, TESDA pupils are now touring Germany. The TESDA system is very similar to the German vocational training which is one of the pillars of industrial success here.

              • https://joeam.com/2015/10/23/reconstitute-the-philippines/ – thanks Juana for suggesting that I digest it a little, but what I am going to give you now is NOT powetry, it is a:

DIGEST OF ARTICLE with some addtional insights added…

                A. Present state

A.1. The Philippines is a Spanish colonial product.

A.1.a. The principalia were the coopted ex-datus.

A.1.b. The friars also ran the villages with them

A.2. The Americans came and tried to teach us. (Pedro and Joe)

A.2.a. The Thomasites did what they could. (Joe)

A.2.b. Filipinos acted the way they did with friars (Pedro)

meaning they told the Americans what they wanted to hear. Spanish Catholicism in the Philippines was medieval, one only needs to read the Noli to know that. Meaning no real thinking was expected, only yes Padre, this became yes Sir – and rote learning.

A.3. The Americans established a democracy

A.3.a. The institutions were American on paper

A.3.b. The ex-principalia mentality prevailed in practice

the Philippine mixture of Catholic hypocrisy – clean and dirty kitchen – and cacique impunity. And medieval-style application of letter of laws, spirit not understood.

                B. Possible solutions

B.1. Revolution from below (Wilhelm Tell) – state was founded based on an oath

B.2. Revolution from above (Atatürk) – state was founded by military and bureaucracy

B.3. Evolution from above (Quezon) – state was founded by a man and his group

B.4. Revolution from the middle (Mabini) – ideas for the state were expounded

B.5. Evolution from the middle (Leni) – beginnings of middle-class civic democracy

all these forms of change, however, entail certain values and tenets that are understood and lived by. Not just a “Constitution” that is recited like a Bible by many but understood in its spirit just as little by most. Refer to the Pedro and Joe story.

                C. Reconstitute the Philippines

C.1. Freedom Constitution. I probably provoked the constitutional fundamentalists here so they stopped reading. I meant the five basic tenets of how a democracy COULD be lived in the Philippines as a SUGGESTION for discussion – not as a real constitution. But ideally a constitution embodies how a democracy is lived. Philippine democracy is about as democratic as most Catholic Filipinos are true Christians in their real behavior.

I took aspects of the Rütli Oath, the Six Arrows of Atatürk and Mabini’s Decalogue and mixed them into five articles as a possibility for discussion.

C.2. Continuity, Consistency, Commitment. How much commitment did we really feel when reciting Panatang Makabayan in school? Rote. Pasok sa isang tenga, labas sa kabila. Opo sir, thank you sir. Pagbalik SIR dis is our Constitution, we ADHERE to eat, it pala, tinago ko ba iyong suman? Rütli Oath is a commitment from below – a rebel oath. Atatürk’s Six Arrows are commitment forced from above. Mabini’s ideas are like a kuya giving payo. So the Freedom Constitution

C.2.a. uses the WE form of the Rütli Oath to strengthen personal commitment.

C.2.b. has honor, humility and kindness as its first commitment para maalala

C.2.c. aspects of Six Arrows and the Decalogue are included in the mix.

Please put comments to the article there not here..

I have subscribed to the article and would like to see some participation. Why?

Because the participation when Joe wrote about Quezons 1939 Code of Civics was also very low especially from the locals. Which means there is probably little INTERNALIZED idea of what a civic democracy means. On paper yes, by rote, yes. But ask a question about how democracy should be applied – tango or kamot-kamot or kain ng kain (Karl). Any wonder it doesn’t work?

Ok that was a bit of a provocation. But like MRP said, minsan batok sa ulo dapat.

Stock market crash?cold war?communism in asia?

*Unting world history sa communism:

        • Paul says:

Stupid because some else has his view on Marcos ?

          • No stupid because it is not grounded on reality.

I’d like to try what you’re smoking.

          • Paul says:

Unfortunately, you violate all the etiquette of a proper blogger should do.

            • I can’t f#cking read what you are saying. The first rule of blogging is write to be understood. You write to give properly educated people migraines. Please go to your schools and demand a refund.

              • Paul says:

“I can’t f#cking read what you are saying”, please don’t talk like this to me as I’m not the one that wrote it.

I just want to see your grounded defense against him.

              • Paul says:

Some excuses would be right way to address your misunderstanding as I’m not the person.

                • Joe America says:

Paul, here is what I would suggest. Rather than attack what others have written, make your case positively. State your view, support it with argument or facts, and give others a chance to respond in kind. This is a discussion forum, and not a chat room. Discussions take the form of teaching and learning and not sparring to win cock fights. giancarloangulo has participated in the blog for a long time and understands the ground rules. It’s up to you to show that you, too, can help others learn. Or can learn yourself.

              • Paul says:

We all are awaiting your constructive breakdown of his said facts.

                • Joe America says:

No, the responsibility is yours to state your case, says I, the referee of this particular blog. See my prior comment.

                • Well besides putting Fact besides his supposed facts where are his sources?

A lot of the regulars here are Facebook friends so they know I’ve been screen capturing the President’s SONA today and am not even halfway done.

So publish credible sources for each claim and the society can answer each claim.

No sources means you are pulling evidence out of thin air.

              • Paul says:

Joe, let it be clear, IM NOT THE ONE THAT WROTE IT.

I have no statement to do on Jc comments (i also didn’t comment it, nor approved it or broke it down), i have just be reading what this person wrote and saw some persons jumping on it whiteout any constructive reply on it.

Call me an observer in this case.

                • Joe America says:

Okay, observe away, but don’t demand that others supply facts. Your comments are confusing me, for sure. But observe, that’s fine.

                  • Joe America says:

Okay, Paul, your additional comment is not approved. It continues to interject copnfusion into a discussion between other parties without adding anything substantive to the debate. It is more an attack on the people who are themselves engaged. Again, if you have a positive statement to make, make it and I will approve it. But let Jc, andrewlim8 and giancarloangulo engage without your interference.

              • Anyone making a claim has a burden to provide proof of his assertions. This is the root of xkcd’s citation required comic. Everything Lourd De Vedra said was backed by his team’s research as shown at the end credits and citations he provided. Some are basic logic. The refutation of JC presents no similar sources hence it is his burden to prove his claims.

            • Unfortunately you violate the proper etiquette of a commenter.

              • Joe America says:

Paul is out of the conversation until he provides a positive contribution to the discussion. Your point is made, as well, so let the substantive debate continue, sticking to the content of Jc’s itemized list and commentary.

          • This is the first comment : I believe what you were trying to say was : ‘Stupid because someone else has a different view on Marcos.

    • manuel buencamino says:

Paki explain nga yun mga bank accounts at ari-arian nila?

    • Enrico Ponce says:

Bakit napakarami ng mga binanggit mong pambobomba under his nose.

Below is a more credible timeline of Marcos regime. It is fair and factual:

        http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/aljazeeracorrespondent/2011/09/201192082718752761.htm

  19. This will be the national song if BBM ever becomes President, and the ginagago have kids…

    May gagong silang,
    may gago na buhay,
    gagong bansa,
    gagong galaw,
    sa gagong lipunan,
    naggagago ang lahat,
    tungo sa pagmangmang,
    at ating itanghal,
    gagong lipunan

with “apologies” to the Bagong Lipunan song I heard so often in my youth.

  21. Gabriel P says:

    JoeAm,

The Marcoses should have never been allowed to return back in the first place. I grew up during the Marcos era and we must always remind the younger generation of the devastation they did to our country. After the Suhartos of Indonesia they are the biggest political thieves in the world. We must always remain vigilant that these type of greedy lowlifes must never be allowed to hold power again.

The Philippines was called the Sick Man of Asia during the Marcos era for a legitimate reason.

    Never again, never again

    • sonny says:

If the elder Marcos is to be judged, one must not forget the visionary blue print of the Philippines he had to sell and accomplish to the three generations of Filipinos that was within his purview: the postwar, the coldwar and the post-coldwar. Human mortality was the condition he could not bargain for. He was in the throes of Lupus when Ninoy came home and could not follow through and address the ills that faced him deservedly or not. He left as part of his legacy a mirror with which everyone could see what Filipinos are made of. The current Marcoses should lead in the recovery of Ferdinand’s dream by returning the wealth of the Philippines and get out of everybody’s way who definitely can do a much better job!

    • Joe America says:

Yes, allowing them to return and run for office set the standards of “zero ethics” and “100% entitlement to the class of impunity”.
